Men's Hoodies & Sweaters

Men's hoodies and sweaters, the everyday mid-layer that adds warmth and comfort on and off the trail. Our range features Just Another Fisherman, Patagonia, The North Face, Simms and more, from cosy cotton hoodies to technical fleece-backed and merino styles.

Hoodies and sweaters bridge casual comfort and outdoor function. Cotton and French-terry styles are soft and relaxed for everyday; technical hoodies use fleece-backed or merino fabric to add breathable warmth as an active mid-layer; and crew and quarter-zip sweaters layer neatly under a jacket. Decide whether you want an everyday hoodie or a performance mid-layer, and how it will sit under your jackets when it gets cold.

Frequently asked questions about men's hoodies & sweaters

Hoodie or sweater, which should I choose?

A hoodie adds a hood for extra warmth and wind protection around your neck and head, and has a casual, sporty feel. A sweater, whether crew or quarter-zip, is cleaner and layers more easily under a jacket without a hood bunching up. Choose a hoodie for casual warmth and versatility, and a sweater when you want a tidier look or a smoother mid-layer under a shell.

What is the difference between a cotton hoodie and a technical hoodie?

A cotton hoodie is soft and cosy for everyday wear but heavy when wet and slow to dry. A technical hoodie uses fleece-backed or merino fabric to deliver breathable warmth that wicks moisture and dries faster, so it works as an active mid-layer for hiking and cool-weather exercise. For lounging and casual wear cotton is great; for the outdoors, choose a technical fabric.

Can a hoodie work as a mid-layer under a jacket?

Yes, a slim technical or merino hoodie makes a good mid-layer, adding warmth under a shell without much bulk. A thick cotton hoodie is less ideal, as it is bulky and holds moisture. If you plan to layer a hoodie under a jacket, choose a trimmer, technical one and check the hood sits comfortably under your jacket collar.

Are quarter-zip sweaters better for layering?

They are excellent for it. A quarter-zip lets you vent heat quickly and adjust your temperature without taking the layer off, and it sits smoothly under a jacket with no hood in the way. That makes quarter-zips a favourite active mid-layer. A full crew sweater layers well too; the quarter-zip just adds handy temperature control on the move.

How should a hoodie or sweater fit?

For everyday wear, a regular, comfortable fit works well. As a mid-layer, look for a slightly trimmer fit with enough room over a tee but not so much that it bunches under a jacket. The sleeves should reach your wrists and the hem sit around your hips. If you will layer it, try it on over the base layer you would actually wear.

How do I wash a hoodie to keep it from bobbling?

Turn it inside out, wash cool on a gentle cycle, and wash it with similar fabrics rather than rough items like denim or hook-and-loop, which cause pilling. Skip fabric softener, air dry where possible, and de-bobble gently with a fabric shaver if pills appear. Gentle, cool washing is the main thing that keeps a hoodie or sweater looking fresh.
