Camping Shelters & Gazebos

Camping shelters and gazebos give your campsite shade, shelter from the wind and a dry place to gather, from quick beach shade to a full kitchen and dining marquee. Our range spans the brands Kiwi campers trust, Zempire, Kiwi Camping, Coleman and OzTrail, with pole and inflatable options to suit day trips and long stays alike.

The right shelter depends on how you use it. Traditional shelters are light and versatile; air shelters pitch fast with no poles; gazebos are the go for a market or backyard; and beach shelters pack down small for a day at the coast. Think about your group size, how often you will move it, and the wind you are likely to face.

Not sure what suits your setup? call into the Land & Sea concept store at 36 Pollen Street, Grey Lynn, Auckland for a hands on look before you buy, or shop online with fast, tracked delivery right across New Zealand.

Frequently asked questions about camping shelters and gazebos

What is the difference between a shelter and a gazebo?

A gazebo is usually a four-sided, pop-up frame that gives you overhead shade and rain cover, ideal for a market stall, backyard or day at the park. A camping shelter is often larger and more enclosable, with optional walls and connection points so it can become a kitchen, dining or living space attached to your tent. Gazebos favour speed and simplicity; shelters favour living space and weather protection.

Are air shelters better than pole shelters?

Air shelters replace metal poles with inflatable beams, so they pitch fast, pack down without loose poles and flex in the wind rather than bending. They cost more and are a little heavier, so they suit campers who value quick, fuss-free setup. Pole shelters are lighter on the wallet and lighter to carry, which can matter for occasional use.

How do I stop my gazebo or shelter blowing away?

Never rely on the frame alone. Peg every leg, add guy ropes to the corners and use sandbags or weights on hard ground where you cannot peg. On the beach, dig weights in and angle the open side away from the wind. In strong gusts, drop the height or take it down, a shelter left up in a gale is the most common way they get damaged.

What size shelter or gazebo do I need?

Match it to what happens underneath. A 3x3m gazebo shades a small group or a table; a larger shelter suits a family kitchen and dining setup or a group base. Remember you also need room to move around furniture, so size up if it will hold a table, chairs and a cooking bench.

Can I connect a shelter to my tent?

Many shelters are designed to link to a tent or to each other using connection kits, creating a covered walkway or an extra sheltered room. Check the connection points and awning channels on both the shelter and your tent. Our team can help match a shelter to your existing tent.

Are these shelters sun-safe for New Zealand summers?

Look for a canopy with a UV rating or UPF sun protection, which most of our shelters and beach shelters carry. New Zealand's UV is harsh, so shade with a good sun rating makes a real difference for kids and long days outdoors. Pair it with sunwalls for shade that moves with the sun.
