About OzTrail
OzTrail is an Australian camping brand built around one idea: making outdoor life simpler for families. Its range focuses on gear that is quick to set up, comfortable to live in and priced so more people can get out camping, from fast-pitching family tents to gazebos for the beach, the park and the sports field.
That practical approach has made OzTrail a familiar name at campgrounds on both sides of the Tasman, especially among families who want more time enjoying the trip and less time wrestling with poles.
OzTrail also makes walls for its gazebos and shade domes, which block wind, sun and rain on one side and turn an open shelter into a sheltered living area beside the tent.
What OzTrail is known for
Fast Frame tents have their frame pre-attached to the tent body, so you unfold it, extend the legs and lock it into place, and a large family tent can be standing in minutes. The Blockout Lumos versions add darkened Blockout fabric that cuts light and heat in the bedrooms, a big help on hot summer mornings. Tasman dome tents are a simpler, lighter choice for couples and small families.
Selected OzTrail gazebos use the Hydroflow anti-ponding design to help rain run off the canopy rather than pooling, and the 4.2m shade domes give quick, open shade at the beach or the campsite. For a comfortable night, the 3D Fatmat self-inflating mats, Anywhere Queen and DuoComfort air beds and Easy Fold stretchers cover every style of bed.

Frequently asked questions about OzTrail
Is OzTrail a good camping brand?
OzTrail is a popular, good-value camping brand, especially for families. Its strength is practical design that makes setup quick and camping more comfortable, such as Fast Frame tents with pre-attached frames, Blockout fabric for cooler bedrooms and anti-ponding gazebos. It is not an ultralight tramping brand, but for campground and family camping in New Zealand it offers a lot of tent and comfort for the money.
How does an OzTrail Fast Frame tent work?
A Fast Frame tent has its frame already attached to the tent body. You lay it out, unfold the frame and extend the legs until they lock into place, then peg and guy it out. There are no poles to thread through sleeves, so a large family tent can go up in a few minutes with two people. It is worth practising once at home before your first trip so you know exactly how the frame folds out and locks.
What is OzTrail Blockout Lumos?
Blockout Lumos is a version of OzTrail's Fast Frame family tents that uses Blockout fabric on the bedrooms. The darker fabric blocks much of the sunlight and heat, so the bedrooms stay darker and cooler in the early morning and on hot afternoons. It is a popular choice for summer camping with children, and the range runs from four person to twelve person sizes to suit couples through to big families and groups.
What size OzTrail tent do I need for my family?
As a rule, size up from your headcount. A family of four is usually comfortable in a six person tent, with room for bags and a little living space, and larger families or groups will appreciate the ten and twelve person Fast Frame Blockout Lumos tents with separate bedrooms. Think about how much time you will spend inside in bad weather, and add a gazebo or shade dome if you want a separate living area.
What is Hydroflow on an OzTrail gazebo?
Hydroflow is OzTrail's anti-ponding design for selected gazebos. The canopy and frame are shaped so rain runs off rather than collecting in pools on the roof, which reduces sagging and the risk of a sudden soaking or damage in heavy rain. Even so, a gazebo should always be pegged and guyed down securely, and taken down if strong wind is forecast, because any large canopy can catch the wind.
Are OzTrail 3D Fatmats comfortable?
Yes, the 3D Fatmat is one of OzTrail's most popular sleep products. It is a thick self-inflating mat with straight sides, which gives you more usable sleeping area than a tapered mat, and the foam core adds comfort and insulation from the cold ground. It packs bigger than a tramping mat, so it is built for car camping, and it pairs well with an Easy Fold stretcher for a raised, comfortable bed.
