Men's Tops
Men's tops for training, the trail and everyday, from technical tees and sun shirts to hoodies, shirts and vests. Our range features Just Another Fisherman, Patagonia, The North Face, Columbia and more, with the layers that sit closest to you across every season.
Your tops are the base and mid of your layering system. Start with t-shirts and tanks for everyday and training; add sun shirts for UV protection on the water and long summer days; a hoodie or sweater is the cosy mid-layer for cooler days; a shirt covers casual and smart-casual; and a vest adds core warmth or hydration for active use. Choose fabrics that breathe and move, and build a rotation that carries you from summer to winter.

Frequently asked questions about men's tops
How do I choose the right top for what I am doing?
Match the top to the job. For everyday and training, a t-shirt or tank in the right fabric is all you need; for sun-heavy days on the water or the trail, a sun shirt keeps you covered; for warmth, a hoodie, sweater or vest works as a mid-layer; and a shirt covers casual and smart-casual. Pick the category for the activity first, then choose the fabric and fit within it.
What fabrics are best for active and everyday tops?
It depends on the use. Cotton is soft and comfortable for casual everyday wear but holds sweat, so it is poor for exercise. Merino wool is the all-rounder: it regulates temperature, resists odour and works for both active and everyday use. Synthetic performance fabrics wick sweat and dry fast, making them ideal for training and hot days. For active use, choose merino or synthetic over cotton.
How should men's tops fit?
It depends on the layer and the look you want. Base-layer and performance tops sit closer to the body so they wick and layer well; everyday tees can be a relaxed or regular fit for comfort; and mid-layers should have room for a base layer underneath without being baggy. The shoulder seam sitting at the edge of your shoulder is a good fit check for most tops.
What is the difference between a base layer and a mid-layer?
A base layer is the top worn next to your skin, whose job is to move sweat away and regulate temperature, usually a snug merino or synthetic tee or long-sleeve. A mid-layer goes over it to trap warmth, such as a fleece, hoodie or light insulated top. In a layering system the base manages moisture, the mid adds warmth, and a shell on top handles wind and rain.
Which tops give sun protection?
Sun shirts are the ones built for it, using UPF-rated fabric to block UV across your arms and torso, and are ideal for fishing, boating and long days outside. Ordinary tees offer only limited, incidental protection. If sun exposure is a real concern for how you spend your time, a dedicated sun shirt covers far more skin far more reliably than sunscreen alone.
How do I stop tops smelling after exercise?
Fabric choice is the biggest factor. Merino naturally resists odour, so it stays fresh far longer than synthetics or cotton, while some technical synthetics have anti-odour treatments. Wash active tops promptly rather than leaving them balled up damp, use a technical wash if you can, and skip fabric softener, which coats the fibres and traps smells. Air drying also helps keep them fresher.
How do I care for technical tops?
Wash them cool or warm on a gentle cycle, turn them inside out, and avoid fabric softener, which clogs performance and wicking fabrics. Air dry where possible, as high dryer heat wears out elastane and merino faster. Following the care label keeps the fabric performing, and technical tops treated this way keep their shape, wicking and odour resistance for a long time.
