Frequently asked questions about barware
What is a Colster?
A Colster is YETI's insulated can and bottle cooler. Your drink slides into a double-wall vacuum insulated stainless sleeve and a gasket holds it in place, keeping it cold far longer than a foam stubby holder. Different versions suit standard cans, slim cans and bottles, so check which fits the drinks you buy. It also stops your hand warming the drink, which matters on hot summer days.
Is an insulated wine tumbler worth it?
If you enjoy a glass of wine outdoors, yes. An insulated stainless wine tumbler keeps white and rose chilled in the sun for far longer than glass, will not shatter on a deck, boat or beach, and usually comes with a lid to keep out bugs and sand. Its stemless shape is also more stable on uneven ground, which makes it a popular choice for picnics, baches and boats.
Why use an insulated cocktail shaker?
An insulated cocktail shaker keeps the outside from getting painfully cold and slippery while you shake, and slows ice melt, so your drink is chilled without being over-diluted. It is also tougher than glass or thin metal shakers, which makes it ideal for outdoor entertaining. Stainless steel will not hold flavours, so you can switch between cocktails with a quick rinse.
Ice bucket or beverage bucket - what is the difference?
An ice bucket is designed mainly to hold ice for serving, keeping it frozen for longer so you are not constantly topping up from the freezer. A beverage bucket is larger and holds bottles and cans in ice, keeping a round of drinks cold on the table or deck. Insulated versions of both keep ice from melting for hours, even outdoors in summer, and save running back to the fridge.
Can I keep spirits in a stainless steel flask?
Yes, a quality stainless steel flask is a classic way to carry spirits on a tramp, a fishing trip or a cold night at the sports field. Stainless steel does not affect the flavour, and a good seal prevents leaks. It is best for carrying rather than long-term storage, so empty and rinse it after use and leave it open to dry. Avoid acidic drinks or mixers, which are better in a bottle or tumbler.
What is an insulated pitcher used for?
An insulated pitcher keeps a jug of iced water, lemonade, cocktails or iced tea cold for hours on the table, without the condensation that drips from a glass jug in summer. Many also work for hot drinks like mulled wine. A lid with an ice guard holds ice back as you pour. It is a handy upgrade for entertaining on the deck, at the bach or around the barbecue.
