Frequently asked questions about cooler parts and accessories

What is a cooler basket for?

A cooler basket hangs inside the top of a hard cooler, holding food and items that need to stay dry above the ice and meltwater. It keeps sandwiches, cheese and delicate items from getting soggy, and makes it easier to find things without digging through the ice. Baskets are sized to fit specific coolers, so check the model and size of your cooler before you buy one.

Do I need a cooler divider?

A divider splits your cooler into sections, so you can separate drinks from food, raw meat from ready-to-eat food, or bait from the day's catch. That keeps things organised and more hygienic, and makes it quicker to find what you want with the lid open for less time. Some dividers also help ice last longer by limiting how much warm air moves around inside the cooler.

What does an insulated fridge cover do?

An insulated transit bag or cover adds an extra layer of insulation around a portable fridge, which helps it hold temperature and use less power, especially in hot weather or when it is in direct sun. It also protects the fridge from scratches, dents and dust on rough roads. Covers are designed for specific models, with openings for ventilation and controls, so match it to your fridge.

Can I get replacement parts for my cooler?

Many premium cooler brands sell replacement latches, gaskets, drain plugs, handles and other parts, so a damaged cooler can be repaired rather than replaced. This is one of the advantages of buying a well-supported brand. Check the product range for your model, or ask our team, who can help find the right part. Keep your proof of purchase in case a part is covered under warranty.

Are seat cushions for coolers worth it?

If you use your cooler as a seat at camp, on the boat or at the beach, a cushion makes it much more comfortable for longer sits. Cooler cushions are made to fit specific lid sizes, attach securely so they will not slide off, and use water-resistant materials that cope with spray and wet swimsuits. They also protect the lid from scuffs and add grip on a wet deck.

How do I stop my cooler sliding around in the car or boat?

Use tie-down straps through the cooler's handles or tie-down points to anchor it to the vehicle's or boat's tie points. Non-slip feet or a rubber mat underneath stop it moving on smooth surfaces. Many hard coolers have built-in tie-down slots designed for this. Securing your cooler is safer in sudden braking or rough water, and stops the lid popping open from knocks.
