Adventure Tents

Adventure tents are the do anything shelters: quick to pitch, tough enough for changeable weather, and simple to live with. Land & Sea stocks them from Coleman, Kiwi Camping, Marmot, Zempire, MSR and Orson, so there is a tent here for a first weekend away and for trips that ask a lot more.

Choose by how far you are carrying it and what you expect the weather to do. Recreational dome tents are the easiest way into camping, go up in minutes and suit campgrounds and sheltered spots. Expedition designs step up the pole strength, fly coverage and waterproofing for exposed country and shoulder season trips.

Heading further afield on foot? Our hiking tents cover 1 to 4 person ultralight and lightweight options. Not sure what suits your trip? Read our guide to choosing the best tent for your next adventure, or call into any Land & Sea store for a hands on look.

Frequently asked questions about adventure tents

What is an adventure tent?

Adventure and expedition tents are built for getting away from the car park rather than settling in at a powered site. They favour a tougher build, a smaller packed size and quick set up over the living space you get from a family tent. Our adventure range sits alongside our hiking tents and swag tents, so you can match the shelter to the trip you have planned.

What is the difference between an adventure tent and a hiking tent?

The difference comes down to how much you have to carry. A hiking tent is chosen first on packed weight and size, because every gram goes in your pack. An adventure tent can afford a little more weight for a hardier build and more room, which suits touring, cycle trips and basecamp style camping where the tent is not carried far.

Which brands of adventure tents do you stock?

Our range features top options from leading brands including Coleman, Kiwi Camping, Marmot, Zempire, MSR and Orson. Between them the selection covers everything from an affordable first tent through to technical shelters built for serious conditions.

Do you stock swag tents?

Yes. A swag combines your bedroll and shelter in one, so it is quick to roll out and quick to pack away. It is a great option for solo touring, hunting trips and anyone who wants to keep the setup as simple as possible. You will find our swags in the swag tents category.

What size adventure tent do I need?

Start with the number of people sleeping in the tent. If weight and packed size are not a concern, going up one size gives you somewhere to keep packs and wet gear out of the weather. If you are carrying the tent any distance, stay true to the number of occupants and keep the weight down.

How waterproof should an adventure tent be?

Tents are rated with an MM rating, which measures the water pressure the fabric can withstand before it begins to leak. A 2,000mm rating means the fabric can endure 2,000mm of water bearing down on it. Match the rating to the conditions you expect, and lean higher if you are heading out in exposed country or through the cooler months.
