Women's Caps

Women's caps for everyday wear, training and the outdoors, from relaxed dad caps to technical running caps and breathable trucker styles. Our range features Patagonia, Just Another Fisherman, Arc'teryx and The North Face, with adjustable fits that suit a ponytail.

Unstructured caps sit softer and lower, structured caps hold a sharper shape, and mesh-back trucker caps keep your head cooler on hot days. For running and training, a light, quick-drying cap with a sweatband stays comfortable as you warm up. For long days in the sun, add a wide-brim sun hat to cover your ears and neck.

Frequently asked questions about women's caps

Are there caps designed to fit women's heads?

Yes. Some brands make women's-specific caps with a slightly smaller crown and a shallower fit, and most caps have an adjustable strap, snapback or buckle that suits a wide range of head sizes. If standard caps sit too high or loose on you, look for a low-profile or women's cut. Measuring around your head just above your ears helps you check fitted sizes against the brand's chart.

What is a ponytail cap?

A ponytail cap has an opening or a lower adjustable back so your ponytail sits through the cap rather than pushing it up off your head. It keeps the cap stable and comfortable when running, hiking or training. Many standard adjustable caps work with a ponytail too, simply by threading it through the gap above the strap. Ponytail caps are popular for running and training because they keep your hair tidy and stop the cap sliding back as you move.

Which cap is best for running or the gym?

Choose a lightweight technical cap made from quick-drying, breathable fabric with a sweat-wicking band, ideally with an adjustable back so it stays put when you move. A soft, low-profile peak keeps sun and sweat out of your eyes without blocking your view. Cotton caps feel heavy and hot once you start sweating, so save those for casual wear. Caps with a reflective trim also help on early runs.

What cap colours stay cool in the sun?

Lighter colours reflect more sunlight and stay cooler than black or navy, which absorb heat. A mesh back or ventilation eyelets also make a big difference on hot days. If you like a darker cap for style, look for one with a breathable mesh panel. For fishing and boating, a dark under-brim reduces glare reflected off the water. On long days in the sun, a cap is best paired with sunscreen on your ears and neck, which the peak does not cover.

Can I adjust a cap if it feels too big?

Most caps can be tightened with the strap, snapback or buckle at the back, which solves the majority of fit issues. If the cap is still loose at its smallest setting, it is simply too big in the crown, and a women's or low-profile style will suit you better. A cap that is slightly loose can also be firmed up by threading a ponytail through the back.

How do I keep a cap looking new?

Keep it out of the washing machine and dryer, which distort the peak and shape. Spot clean with mild soap and a soft brush, rinse, and dry it over a rounded shape such as a jar. Store caps out of direct sun when you are not wearing them, as UV fades colours over time, and avoid crushing them flat at the bottom of a bag. For sweat stains on the headband, a gentle scrub with diluted laundry soap before they set usually lifts them.

What is the difference between a snapback, strapback and fitted cap?

A snapback closes with plastic snaps at the back, giving quick, stepped adjustment. A strapback uses a fabric or leather strap with a buckle for a finer, smoother fit. A fitted cap has no adjustment at all and comes in set sizes, so you need to know your head measurement. For women with smaller heads or a ponytail, a strapback or snapback is usually the most comfortable and versatile choice.
