About Crocs

Crocs was founded in 2002 in Boulder, Colorado. The first Crocs were designed as boat shoes, with a grippy, non-marking sole and a material that does not mind getting wet, and they were launched at a boat show in Florida. Their comfort and practicality soon took them far beyond the water, and the Classic Clog has since become one of the most recognisable shoes in the world.

The secret is Croslite, Crocs' own closed-cell resin. It is soft and cushioning underfoot, very light, and it does not absorb water, so Crocs can be rinsed off and worn wet without getting heavy.

The Classic Clog

The Classic Clog is the shoe that started it all. Its roomy fit gives your toes space to move, the ventilation ports let air and water flow through, and the pivoting heel strap can sit forward for an easy slip-on fit or behind the heel to hold the clog securely when you are walking further, on a deck or in the garden.

Because they are waterproof and easy to clean, Crocs are a favourite with gardeners, boaties, hospitality workers and anyone who spends long hours on their feet, as well as a simple, comfortable choice for the beach, the campsite and around home.

Crocs at Land & Sea

We stock the Crocs Classic Clog in a choice of colours and in unisex sizes, each labelled with both a men's and a women's US size so you can find your fit. Crocs come in whole sizes only. Many people who sit between sizes, or have narrow feet, prefer to size down for a closer fit, while those who like a roomy fit or wear socks may prefer the larger size. If you are unsure, try a pair on in store before you buy.

Keep a pair by the door for quick trips outside, in the boat for wet decks or in the car for the beach, and simply rinse them off when they get dirty.

Frequently asked questions about Crocs

Are Crocs unisex?

Yes, the Crocs Classic Clog uses unisex sizing. Each size is listed with both a men's and a women's US size, such as US Mens 8 / Womens 10, so the women's size is usually two sizes higher than the men's size on the same clog. Check the size label and compare it with your usual shoe size, and if you are between sizes, think about how close a fit you like before you choose.

How should Crocs fit?

Crocs Classic Clogs are designed with a roomy fit. Your heel should sit at the back of the clog with a little space in front of your toes, and your foot should not slide around too much when you walk. Crocs come in whole sizes only, so if you are between sizes, many people go down a size for a closer fit or up a size if they wear socks or have wide feet. Flipping the heel strap back adds security.

What are Crocs made of?

Crocs are made from Croslite, a closed-cell resin developed by Crocs. It is soft and cushioning, very lightweight and does not absorb water, so Crocs stay comfortable when wet and dry quickly. Croslite also resists odour better than many shoe materials and is easy to clean. It is what gives Crocs their distinctive feel, and why they are so popular for boating, gardening and the beach.

How do you clean Crocs?

Crocs are easy to clean. Rinse them with cold water and wipe them down with a little mild soap and a soft brush or cloth, then rinse again and let them air dry. Avoid hot water, the dishwasher, washing machines and leaving them in direct sun or a hot car, because high heat can cause Croslite to shrink or warp. For stubborn marks, a little more scrubbing with soapy water usually does the job.

Are Crocs good for boating and fishing?

Crocs were originally designed as boat shoes, so they are a natural fit on the water. The soles are designed to grip on wet decks without leaving marks, the Croslite material does not absorb water, and they rinse clean after a day of fish, salt and bait. Flip the heel strap behind your heel for extra security when moving around the boat, and remember they are not a substitute for proper safety footwear.

Why are Crocs so popular?

Crocs are comfortable, lightweight and practical. The cushioned Croslite footbed is easy on your feet during long days, the shoes are waterproof and quick to clean, and they slip on and off in seconds. That makes them popular with people who work on their feet, gardeners and boaties, and as everyday summer shoes for the whole family. A wide choice of colours has also helped turn the Classic Clog into a style icon.
