About NEMO
NEMO Equipment was founded in 2002 in New Hampshire, in New England, by Cam Brensinger, who started the company to design better outdoor gear through a mix of industrial design and real-world testing. It has become known for clever, comfortable designs that solve the problems trampers and campers actually have, from a cold night on a thin mat to a tent that sags in the rain.
NEMO pays close attention to materials, too. Its OSMO tent fabric is a recycled, PFAS-free poly-nylon ripstop designed to keep its water repellency longer and stretch less when wet, so tents stay taut in the rain and shed water well.
NEMO tests its designs in the field before they reach the shelves, and many of its tents, pads and bags have picked up outdoor industry design awards. Tensor pads are also known for being quiet, so you are less likely to wake your tent mate every time you roll over.
Sleep systems
NEMO's Tensor sleeping pads are light, quiet insulated air pads, with versions such as the Tensor Trail, Tensor All-Season, Tensor Extreme Conditions and Tensor Elite to suit different temperatures and weights. The Disco and Riff down sleeping bags have a spoon shape, wider at the elbows and knees, giving side sleepers room to move without the extra weight of a rectangular bag.
Fillo pillows add comfort for very little weight, and the Switchback foam pad is a tough, simple option on its own or an extra layer under an air pad in winter.
Tents, chairs and NEMO at Land & Sea
NEMO's OSMO tents cover the range from the ultralight Hornet to the roomier Dragonfly, with the Dagger and Mayfly for comfortable backpacking, and the Chogori is built for mountaineering. Around camp, the Moonlite reclining chair packs small and the Helio portable pressure shower makes washing up easy.
We carry a wide NEMO range, and our team can help you choose a pad and bag combination that suits how you sleep and where you camp.
Frequently asked questions about NEMO
Is NEMO a good outdoor brand?
Yes. NEMO Equipment is a respected American outdoor brand known for innovative, comfortable designs, including Tensor sleeping pads, spoon-shaped Disco and Riff sleeping bags and lightweight OSMO tents. It combines industrial design with real-world field testing, and its gear is popular with trampers, bikepackers and campers who want light, well thought out equipment that is genuinely comfortable to use.
What is a NEMO spoon-shaped sleeping bag?
NEMO's Disco and Riff sleeping bags use a spoon shape, which is wider at the elbows and knees than a standard mummy bag. That gives side sleepers and restless sleepers room to bend their knees and move their arms, while staying narrower than a rectangular bag so it is still light and warm. Many people who feel trapped in a mummy bag find a spoon-shaped bag much more comfortable.
Which NEMO Tensor sleeping pad should I buy?
Choose by the conditions you camp in. The Tensor Trail is a light, versatile pad for three-season trips, the Tensor All-Season adds more insulation for colder nights, and the Tensor Extreme Conditions is built for winter and snow. The Tensor Elite is the lightest of the range for fast and light trips. Each comes in different lengths and widths, so pick a size that suits how you sleep.
What is NEMO OSMO fabric?
OSMO is NEMO's own tent fabric, a poly-nylon ripstop made from recycled materials and free from PFAS chemicals. It is designed to keep its water repellency for longer and to stretch less when wet than standard nylon, so tents stay taut in the rain instead of sagging. It is used on NEMO tents such as the Hornet, Dragonfly, Mayfly and Dagger, which makes them a good fit for wet New Zealand trips.
What is the difference between the NEMO Hornet and Dragonfly?
Both are lightweight OSMO hiking tents, but they balance weight and space differently. The Hornet is NEMO's ultralight option, keeping weight to a minimum for fast and light trips. The Dragonfly is still light but gives you more livable space and features, which makes it more comfortable for longer trips or two people sharing. Choose the Hornet if every gram counts and the Dragonfly if comfort matters more.
Does NEMO have a warranty?
Yes. NEMO stands behind its gear with a warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, and it supports repairs, in line with its Endless Promise approach to making products that last and can be repaired or recycled. Keep your receipt and check NEMO's current warranty terms for your product. If something goes wrong with NEMO gear bought from Land & Sea, contact our team and we will help.
Is the NEMO Chogori a four season tent?
Yes, the Chogori is NEMO's two person mountaineering tent, built for alpine and winter conditions, including strong wind and snow. It is designed to be strong and stable in exposed places, with a sturdy pole structure and room for two climbers and their gear. It is heavier than NEMO's three-season hiking tents, so it suits winter mountaineering and alpine trips rather than summer tramping.
