About YETI
YETI was founded in 2006 by brothers Roy and Ryan Seiders in Austin, Texas. Keen anglers and hunters, they were tired of coolers that cracked, leaked and let the ice melt, so they built their own: the Tundra, a rotomoulded hard cooler made to take a beating on a boat or the back of a truck. That focus on gear that survives hard use has carried YETI from coolers into drinkware, soft coolers, bags and camp furniture.
Today YETI is as familiar at the office and the school gate as it is on the water, but the design brief has not changed: thick insulation, tough materials and details that make everyday use easier.
What YETI is known for
The Tundra and Roadie hard coolers use thick walls of insulation inside rotomoulded shells, with lids that latch down tight and feet that stay put on a wet deck. The larger Roadie models add wheels and a handle for the walk from the car. The Hopper soft coolers bring the same thinking to bags you can carry, from the compact Hopper Flip to backpack and tote styles.
Rambler drinkware is double-wall, vacuum-insulated stainless steel, so a coffee stays hot, a cold drink stays cold and the outside does not sweat. MagSlider lids, chug caps and straw lids suit different drinks. The lighter Yonder bottles cover days when weight matters more than insulation.
YETI at Land & Sea
We carry one of New Zealand's widest YETI ranges: Tundra and Roadie hard coolers, Hopper soft coolers, Daytrip lunch bags, Rambler tumblers, mugs, bottles and Colster can coolers, Panga waterproof duffels and backpacks, Crossroads and Camino bags, LoadOut Go-Box storage, SideKick Dry cases and Trailhead camp chairs. Many come in a choice of colours, and our team can help you size a cooler for a day on the boat or a week at the bach.
Frequently asked questions about YETI
Is YETI worth the money?
For most people who use their gear hard, yes. YETI coolers and drinkware cost more than budget options because of thick insulation, rotomoulded or stainless steel construction and tough fittings, which means better ice and temperature retention and a much longer life. If a cooler only comes out once a summer, a cheaper option may do, but for regular boat, fishing and camping trips a YETI tends to pay for itself over the years.
What is the difference between YETI Tundra and Roadie coolers?
Both are rotomoulded hard coolers with thick insulation. The Tundra is the classic box-shaped YETI cooler in a wide range of sizes, built for boats, utes and long trips, with a tough lid that doubles as a seat. The Roadie range is designed to be easier to carry and fit in a car, and the larger Roadie models add wheels and a telescoping handle, so they suit beach days, picnics and road trips where you walk further with a full load.
How long does ice last in a YETI cooler?
It depends on the cooler size, how full it is, the outside temperature and how often you open it, so there is no single number. To get the most from a YETI, pre-chill it with sacrificial ice the night before, use about two parts ice to one part contents, keep it in the shade, open it as little as possible and only drain melt water when you need to. Block ice lasts longer than cubes, and a full cooler holds its temperature better than a half-empty one.
Is YETI Rambler drinkware dishwasher safe?
Yes, YETI Rambler cups, tumblers, mugs and bottles are dishwasher safe, along with most of their lids. The double-wall vacuum insulation is sealed inside the stainless steel, so washing does not affect how well it keeps drinks hot or cold. For lids with rubber seals, take the gasket out now and then and wash it separately so it stays clean, and check the care notes for any accessories such as straws or chug caps.
What is a YETI MagSlider lid?
The MagSlider is YETI's lid for Rambler tumblers and mugs. A magnetic slider covers the drinking opening to help keep heat in and splashes down, and it pops off for cleaning because it is held on by a magnet rather than hinges or clips. It is splash-resistant rather than fully leakproof, so if your drink is going into a bag or backpack, choose a Rambler bottle with a chug cap or a screw-top lid instead.
Which YETI soft cooler should I buy?
Choose by how you carry it and how much you need to keep cold. The Hopper Flip is a compact, square soft cooler with a wide opening that suits lunches, a few drinks and day trips. Hopper backpack and tote styles carry more and leave your hands free for the walk to the beach or the boat. For a work lunch, a Daytrip lunch bag is lighter and simpler. All of them use thick insulation inside a tough, easy-to-clean shell.
Does YETI have a warranty in New Zealand?
Yes. YETI products sold in New Zealand come with a limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, and the length of cover depends on the product line, with hard coolers and drinkware generally covered for longer than some soft goods. Keep your receipt, check the warranty details for your product, and get in touch with our team if something goes wrong so we can help you with the claim.
