About Bush Storage
Bush Storage was born on Auckland's West Coast, out of West Supply and Feldon Shelter's search for a better way to organise gear for adventures. Feldon is the New Zealand company behind the well known Feldon Shelter rooftop tents, and that same practical approach shaped these crates: tough, weatherproof boxes that work on the roof, in the boot, on a ute tray or in a boat.
Bush Storage crates are made in New Zealand, and they are designed to stack neatly, lock together and keep dust and rain out on the dirtiest back roads.
Cargo crates and rooftop crates
The cargo crates come in 55L, 75L and 85L sizes, so you can build a storage system that fits your vehicle, with one crate for cooking gear, one for recovery gear and one for clothing. Their straight sides make the most of the space in a boot or canopy, and they stack securely for travel.
The rooftop crates come in 80L and 125L sizes and are built to sit on a roof rack or platform. Bush Storage quick release mounts let you lock the crate to your rack and take it off again quickly, so you can lift it down at camp or remove it when you do not need the extra space.
Organisers and Bush Storage at Land & Sea
Lid organiser pouches in different sizes and lid organiser panels attach inside the lid of a crate, giving you a place for small items such as head torches, tie downs, tools and first aid gear, so you are not digging through the whole box to find them. The crates come in black, brown and sand, to match your vehicle and rack. Because every crate in the range shares the same design language, you can add to your system over time and keep it looking tidy.
At Land & Sea we stock the Bush Storage range alongside Feldon Shelter tents, and our team can help you plan a storage setup for your vehicle.
Frequently asked questions about Bush Storage
Are Bush Storage crates waterproof?
Bush Storage crates are designed to be weatherproof, with sealed lids that keep out rain, spray and dust on the road, on the roof and in the boat. That makes them well suited to gear you want to keep dry and clean, such as clothing, bedding, food and electronics. As with any storage box, avoid submerging them in water, and check the lid is closed and latched properly before you drive.
Who makes Bush Storage crates?
Bush Storage was developed on Auckland's West Coast by West Supply and Feldon Shelter, the New Zealand company known for its Feldon rooftop tents. The crates are made in New Zealand and were designed around the needs of people who tour, camp and adventure in Kiwi conditions, from beach trips to back country roads. That makes them a natural partner for a Feldon tent and a roof platform.
Which Bush Storage crate size should I choose?
Choose by where the crate will go and what you will put in it. The 55L cargo crate suits smaller vehicles and compact kits such as cooking gear. The 75L and 85L cargo crates suit larger boots, canopies and ute trays, and hold more bulky gear. The 80L and 125L rooftop crates are designed for roof racks and platforms. Measure your space, including height, before you buy.
How do Bush Storage quick release mounts work?
Bush Storage quick release mounts attach to your roof rack or platform and lock the rooftop crate in place, so it stays secure while driving. When you reach camp or no longer need the crate, you can release it and lift it off without tools, then refit it just as quickly. The mounts are made to suit the 80L and 125L rooftop crates. Always check the load rating of your roof rack before loading it.
How do I organise gear for a camping road trip?
Use dedicated storage crates for each group of gear, such as cooking, recovery, clothing and bedding, so you know exactly where everything is and can unpack only what you need. Keep heavy items low and towards the centre of the vehicle for safer handling, and put lighter, bulky items on the roof. Lid organisers for small essentials and clear labels make setting up and packing down camp much faster.
How much weight can I put on my roof?
Check the dynamic roof load rating in your vehicle's manual and the rating of your roof rack or platform, and use the lower of the two. The dynamic rating covers the total weight while driving, including the rack, crates, rooftop tent and everything in them. Keep heavier gear inside the vehicle and load the roof with lighter, bulky items. Driving with a loaded roof raises the centre of gravity, so slow down on corners and rough tracks.
