Kovea
About Kovea
Kovea is a South Korean outdoor brand established in 1982, and it has spent more than four decades making gas stoves, cookware and lighting for campers and trampers around the world. Its motto, Beyond the Limits, reflects a focus on light, reliable and well engineered gear that works in the backcountry as well as at the campground.
Kovea is a quiet achiever in the outdoor world. Its stoves are known for good value, solid build quality and clever design, and many trampers carry a Kovea stove without realising how long the brand has been making them.
Stoves for every trip
For tramping and fast trips, the Supalite Titanium and Titanium stoves are tiny, very light canister top stoves that fold down to fit inside a small pot. The Spider is a remote canister stove, with the burner connected to the gas by a hose, which makes it more stable with bigger pots and lets you shelter the flame more easily. The Moon Walker, Scout, Fireman, Backpackers and Solo stoves give you a choice of sizes, outputs and features for different trips.
For car camping and the bach, the Kovea Portable Stove V2 is a stable, easy to use stove for cooking full meals for the family.
Cookware, lighting and Kovea at Land & Sea
The Alpine Pot Wide combines a stove and pot into one compact system for fast boiling, and Kovea cookware sets such as the Solo 2, Solo 3 and Hard 56 nest together neatly for packing. The Firefly lantern adds light to the tent or table, and Kovea's torches and the nozzle to screw adaptor round out the range.
At Land & Sea we stock a good selection of Kovea gear, and our team can help you choose a stove and pot that suit the number of people you cook for and how far you carry them. A light stove and a single pot is all most trampers need.
Frequently asked questions about Kovea
What is the difference between a canister top and a remote canister stove?
A canister top stove screws directly onto the top of a gas canister, which makes it very light and compact, ideal for tramping. A remote canister stove, such as the Kovea Spider, sits on the ground and connects to the canister with a hose, which gives a lower, more stable base for bigger pots and makes it easier to use a windshield safely. Choose by weight, pot size and how stable you need it.
Which Kovea stove is best for tramping?
For tramping, a light canister top stove such as the Kovea Supalite Titanium is hard to beat, as it weighs very little and packs into a small pot. If you cook for two or more, or use bigger pots, the Kovea Spider remote canister stove is more stable. If you want fast boiling in one compact unit, the Alpine Pot Wide combines a stove and pot. Choose by your group size and what you like to cook.
Are Kovea stoves good value?
Yes, Kovea stoves are known for offering reliable performance and solid build quality at a good price. Kovea has been making gas stoves since 1982, and its range covers ultralight titanium stoves for tramping, remote canister stoves for bigger groups and portable stoves for car camping. For many campers and trampers, a Kovea stove offers most of the performance of premium brands for less money.
What does the Kovea nozzle to screw adaptor do?
The Kovea nozzle to screw adaptor lets you connect a nozzle type butane canister to a stove that normally uses a screw thread gas canister. That can be handy when screw thread canisters are hard to find or when you already have nozzle canisters on hand. Always follow the instructions, check for leaks before lighting the stove, and only use the adaptor with compatible stoves and canisters.
How do I keep a gas stove working well in cold weather?
Gas canisters lose pressure in the cold, so the flame can weaken on frosty mornings or at altitude. Keep the canister warm by storing it inside your sleeping bag or jacket overnight, and use a canister with an isobutane and propane mix, which performs better than pure butane in the cold. A remote canister stove like the Kovea Spider makes it easier to keep the canister warm and sheltered.
What cookware do I need for tramping?
Most trampers only need one pot with a lid, sized for the number of people, plus a mug and a long handled spoon. A pot of around one litre suits one or two people boiling water for freeze dried meals and drinks, while larger groups need more. Nesting cookware sets, such as Kovea's Solo 2 and Solo 3, pack neatly with a small stove inside. Choose lighter materials if you carry your cookware far.
