About Coleman
Coleman has been part of camping for well over a century. The company started in the early 1900s in the United States, when W.C. Coleman began selling and then making bright, reliable lamps and lanterns. Coleman lanterns became famous, and over the following decades the brand grew into tents, coolers, stoves, sleeping bags and furniture, becoming one of the most recognised camping names in the world.
In New Zealand, Coleman is a trusted family camping brand, known for gear that is easy to use, good value and built for regular family holidays.
Tents and shelters
Coleman's Instant Up tents have poles that are already attached to the tent, so you can pitch them in minutes with fewer parts to lose. The Instant Up Gold Northstar Darkroom tents add built in lighting, and like the Instant Up Silver Darkroom tents, they use Coleman's Darkroom technology, which blocks much of the sunlight so the tent stays darker and cooler in the morning, helping kids and adults sleep in. The Instant Up Excursion tents are a simpler, great value option, and the Darwin hiking tents suit lighter trips and adventures.
For shade and shelter, the Event 12 Deluxe and Event 15 shelters, with matching sunwalls, and the Fast Pitch 14 shelter create a covered living area at the beach, the campsite or a sports day.
Sleep, cooking and Coleman at Land & Sea
Coleman Quickbed airbeds, including bundles with the rechargeable Quickpump, make a comfortable bed at camp or for guests at home, and Coleman sleeping bags include the Illumibug kids range. The Coleman outdoor blanket is a handy picnic and campsite blanket. In the camp kitchen, the Triton 2 burner camping stove cooks family meals, and Coleman Extreme coolers keep food and drinks cold. All Night rechargeable lanterns light the campsite, and Swagger chairs give everyone a seat.
At Land & Sea we stock a wide Coleman range, and our team can help you choose a tent, shelter and kit for your family's camping trips.
Frequently asked questions about Coleman
What is a Coleman Darkroom tent?
A Coleman Darkroom tent uses specially coated fabric that blocks a large share of sunlight from entering the tent, so the inside stays darker and cooler in the morning and on hot days. That helps everyone sleep longer after sunrise, which is especially useful with young children, and keeps the tent more comfortable during the day. Coleman's Instant Up Gold Northstar and Instant Up Silver tents feature Darkroom technology.
How fast can you pitch a Coleman Instant Up tent?
Coleman Instant Up tents are designed to be pitched in a few minutes, because the poles are pre-attached to the tent body. You unfold the tent, extend the poles until they lock into place, then peg it out and attach the fly if needed. With practice, one or two people can have a family tent standing very quickly. Always peg and guy out the tent fully, especially in windy conditions.
What is the difference between Coleman Instant Up Gold and Silver tents?
Both Coleman Instant Up ranges have pre-attached poles for fast setup and Darkroom technology. The Instant Up Gold Northstar tents add features such as built in lighting and usually more premium materials and details, while the Instant Up Silver tents offer the same easy setup and Darkroom benefits at a lower price. Compare sizes, features and pack weights to choose the right one for your family.
Are Coleman airbeds good for camping?
Coleman Quickbed airbeds are a comfortable, affordable option for camping and for guests at home. They inflate quickly with a pump, such as the rechargeable Quickpump included in some bundles, and pack down small for storage. For best comfort, inflate them firmly and top them up after the first night, as the material relaxes. Use a blanket or mat underneath on cold ground, as air can feel cold at night.
What is a Coleman Event shelter?
A Coleman Event shelter is a large, freestanding gazebo style shelter that creates a covered living area at the campsite, beach or events. The Event 12 Deluxe and Event 15 shelters provide shade and rain protection, and sunwalls attach to the sides to block wind, low sun and rain. They are popular for family camping as a shared kitchen and dining space. Peg and guy them securely, as large shelters catch the wind.
Which Coleman lantern is best for camping?
A rechargeable LED lantern, such as the Coleman All Night rechargeable lantern, is a safe, convenient choice for tents and campsites, with no fuel to carry and no heat or fumes inside a tent. Choose a brightness that suits your space, and look for multiple light modes so you can save battery. Charge it before your trip and carry a power bank on longer stays away from power.
