About Kiwi Camping

Kiwi Camping is a New Zealand camping brand that has been helping Kiwis get outdoors for more than 30 years. Its gear is designed with local conditions in mind, from coastal wind to sudden rain, and the range covers everything from a first family tent to a rooftop tent for the 4WD.

The aim has always been to make camping accessible: practical tents and shelters at a fair price, with the details that matter once the weather turns, such as strong frames, good ventilation and pieces that are designed to work together.

Kiwi Camping also designs the extras that make a campsite work, such as mesh ground sheets, annex rooms, tent accessories and replacement parts, so you can add to a setup over time rather than starting again.

Tents and shelters for every trip

Families choose the Kea recreational dome tents and the Takahe blackout family dome tents, which use darkened fabric to keep bedrooms cooler and darker in the morning. The Tui and Swift air tents swap poles for inflatable beams that pitch quickly from a single pump. For tramping there are Weka hiking tents, and for touring the Tuatara rooftop tents mount on a roof rack so camp is ready in minutes.

The Savanna shelters are a campsite favourite, and Kiwi Camping's Exact-Fit connectors join selected tents to a Savanna, giving you a covered living area right at the tent door.

Kiwi Camping at Land & Sea

We carry a wide Kiwi Camping range: tents and air tents, Savanna shelters and sunwalls, tent accessories and spare parts, Rover self-inflating mats, camp chairs, crockery and lighting. Because so many pieces are designed to work together, it is easy to build a campsite one item at a time and know it will connect up. Our team camps with this gear and can help you choose the right tent size and shelter combination for your family.

Frequently asked questions about Kiwi Camping

Is Kiwi Camping a New Zealand brand?

Yes. Kiwi Camping is a New Zealand camping brand, and its tents, shelters and camp gear are designed with New Zealand conditions in mind, from coastal wind and sudden showers to strong summer sun. It has been part of Kiwi camping for more than 30 years, and its range runs from family dome tents and air tents to hiking tents, rooftop tents, shelters, bedding and camp furniture.

Are Kiwi Camping air tents easy to pitch?

Yes, that is their main appeal. Kiwi Camping air tents such as the Tui and Swift use inflatable beams instead of poles, so you peg out the floor, connect the pump and inflate each beam, and the tent stands up on its own. Once it is guyed out, a large family air tent can be up much faster than a pole tent of the same size. Keep the pump handy and check the beam pressure on hot days, as air expands in the sun.

What does blackout mean on a Kiwi Camping Takahe tent?

Blackout refers to darkened fabric on the bedrooms that blocks much of the light and heat from the sun. On the Takahe blackout family dome tents it keeps the bedrooms darker and cooler early in the morning and during hot afternoons, which helps children sleep later and stops the tent turning into an oven. It is a popular feature for New Zealand summer camping, with its long, bright evenings and early sunrises.

Can I connect a Kiwi Camping tent to a Savanna shelter?

Yes, selected Kiwi Camping tents can be joined to a Savanna shelter using Kiwi Camping's Exact-Fit connectors, which are matched to specific tent and shelter sizes. This creates a covered link between the tent door and the shelter, so you can move from the bedroom to the living space without getting wet. Check the connector listing to make sure it matches your exact tent model and Savanna size before you buy.

Which Kiwi Camping tent is best for a family?

It depends on how many are sleeping and how quickly you want to pitch. The Kea recreational dome tents are a great all-round choice for families, the Takahe blackout family dome tents add darker, cooler bedrooms, and the Tui and Swift air tents pitch fastest with inflatable beams. Size up by one or two people over your headcount so there is room for gear, and add a Savanna shelter for a dry living area.

What is a Kiwi Camping Tuatara rooftop tent?

The Tuatara is Kiwi Camping's rooftop tent range, designed to mount on a roof rack so your bed is up off the ground and ready to sleep in within minutes of arriving. Models such as the Peak and Pinnacle suit touring couples and road trips, and an annex room can add extra space underneath. Check your vehicle and roof rack load ratings before fitting any rooftop tent, and get advice on mounting if you are unsure.

Where can I buy Kiwi Camping spare parts?

We stock a large range of Kiwi Camping parts and accessories, so you can keep a favourite tent going for years rather than replacing it. Search your tent model on our site or browse the parts and repairs section under Tents. If you cannot find the exact part you need, contact the team at Land & Sea with your tent model and a description of the part, and we will help you track it down.
