About CamelBak
CamelBak began in 1989, when an emergency medical technician and cyclist preparing for a long, hot bike race filled an IV bag with water, slipped it into a sock and strapped it to his back with a tube over his shoulder. It let him drink without taking his hands off the bars, and the hands free hydration pack was born. CamelBak has been making hydration gear ever since.
Today the brand makes everything from everyday water bottles to reservoirs and run vests, all built around the idea that it should be easy to drink enough water.
Thrive bottles
The Thrive range covers everyday bottles in two styles. Thrive Chug bottles have a wide spout for big, fast gulps, while Thrive Flip Straw bottles have a flip up straw for easy sipping. Both come in insulated stainless steel, which keeps drinks cold for hours, and in lighter Tritan Renew, a durable plastic made with recycled content, in sizes from 600ml to 1.5L.
Thrive Flip Straw Kids bottles, in a 400ml size with fun colours, are made for little hands and school bags, and accessory caps let you swap or replace lids.
Bike bottles, reservoirs and run vests
The Podium is CamelBak's bike bottle, designed to squeeze easily and fit standard bottle cages. Crux reservoirs, in 1.5L, 2.0L and 3.0L sizes, slot into packs for hands free drinking on tramps and rides, and Big Bite valves replace the mouthpiece when it wears out.
For running, the Trail Run Vest comes with two Quick Stow flasks at the front, and the Circuit Run Vest comes with a Crux 1.5L reservoir, both in men's and women's fits, with pockets for gels, a phone and a jacket. At Land & Sea our team can help you choose the right bottle, reservoir or vest for how you move. Rinse reservoirs after every use and let them air dry fully to keep them fresh.
Frequently asked questions about CamelBak
What is the difference between Thrive Chug and Thrive Flip Straw?
The CamelBak Thrive Chug has a wide spout that lets you take big, fast gulps, which suits workouts, hot days and people who like to drink a lot at once. The Thrive Flip Straw has a flip up straw for easy, spill resistant sipping without tipping the bottle, which suits the car, the desk and the gym. Both come in insulated stainless steel and Tritan Renew versions in a range of sizes.
Which CamelBak Crux reservoir size do I need?
A 1.5L reservoir suits short runs, rides and day walks where you can refill along the way. A 2.0L reservoir is a versatile size for most day tramps and longer rides, and a 3.0L reservoir suits long, hot days and places without water. Check that the reservoir fits your pack. CamelBak Crux reservoirs come in 1.5L, 2.0L and 3.0L sizes, and the Circuit Run Vest includes a 1.5L Crux.
How do I clean a CamelBak reservoir?
Rinse the reservoir with warm water after every use, then hang it open to air dry fully, ideally with something inside to hold it open. Every so often, wash it with warm soapy water or a cleaning tablet, and scrub the tube and valve with a cleaning brush. Removing the bite valve to clean it helps prevent mould. Store the reservoir dry, or in the freezer, between trips to keep it fresh.
What is Tritan Renew?
Tritan Renew is a durable, BPA free plastic made with a significant share of recycled content derived from plastic waste. It keeps the clarity, toughness and dishwasher safe performance of standard Tritan, while reducing the amount of new plastic used. CamelBak uses Tritan Renew in many Thrive bottles, giving you a lighter alternative to insulated stainless steel with a smaller environmental footprint.
Should I choose a run vest with flasks or a reservoir?
Front flasks, like the two Quick Stow flasks on the CamelBak Trail Run Vest, are easy to refill at aid stations and let you see how much you have left, and you can carry electrolyte in one and water in the other. A reservoir, like the Crux 1.5L in the Circuit Run Vest, carries more water and suits longer runs without refill points. Many trail runners choose flasks for races and a reservoir for long training runs.
When should I replace a bite valve?
Replace the bite valve on your hydration reservoir when it starts to leak, tears, becomes stiff, or is hard to clean properly. Bite valves wear with regular use and chewing, so carrying a spare on long trips is a good idea. CamelBak Big Bite valves are designed to fit CamelBak reservoir tubes and are easy to swap in seconds, giving your reservoir a fresh, leak free mouthpiece.
