Product Description
Sweep. Pause. Explode.
The Malosi Chieftain 180F is a buoyant floating stickbait that rides high, glides long and draws explosive surface eats. Sweep for a rolling S-glide and bright flash, then stall it to hang in the bubble trail. Lift the rod to walk it on top or drop the tip to skim just under the skin along reef edges, wash and bait pushes. Ships unrigged so you can tune posture and action with your hook choice.
- Float control: sits high and stable so you can keep it in the window through wind chop and wash.
- Glide • Flash • Hang: flat sides throw light on the burn, sweep into a long S-glide, then hang on the pause.
- Weight-forward cast core: rockets long and tracks straight to cover more water per cast.
- Multi-retrieve: sweep–pause, walk-the-dog with twitches, or skim sub-surface on a steady wind.
- Tune it your way: unrigged body accepts trebles, singles or mixed to balance hookup rate vs. float posture.
Tip: use a loop knot and a higher rod angle to keep the Chieftain riding high; drop the tip to let it bite just under the surface.
The Chieftain is different to most traditional floating sticks in that it sits horizontal on the surface at rest and has a natural swim action built in. Requiring next to no effort, this stickbait can be fished all day with ease; sweep, pop or straight retrieve, the Chieftain will dig in just under the surface and swim seductively, even in chop or at heights where most traditional floating stickbaits cannot be used effectively.
Chieftains swim best when rigged with a treble on the belly and single on the back, this combination frees up the action of lure and allows for a wider more aggressive S swim. In general double singles will lighten the lure, giving it a wider more slashing action that is slightly more unstable, where-as adding double trebles will dampen the base action a little due to the weight but has the obvious advantage of more hook points to secure the fish.

Best retrieve for Chieftain 180F?
Sweep–pause to glide and hang, then add twitch–twitch to walk the lure on the surface. A steady wind will skim it just sub-surface when fish won’t fully breach.
How do I control running height?
Use rod angle and hook weight. Higher rod + lighter hooks keeps it on top; lower the tip or upsize hooks to make it bite just under the skin.
Ideal tackle?
Medium-heavy spin (6–12 kg line class) with a supple leader and a loop knot for free action.
